The Austin community in Minnesota, United States, is mourning the death of Chol Okey Opiew, whose life came to an end while in Pinyudo, Ethiopia.
Chol, who attended Riverland Community College, is a long-time Austin resident and a great leader in the Sudanese as well as the community at large.
According to Oballa O Oballa, Chol went to visit his family in Ethiopia a few months ago, only for it to end up being his last-ever visit.

“Please pray for his children who are still with us here in Austin Minnesota. This is a great loss to our community,” mourned Oballa.

Chol has been hailed as one of the great leaders in the community who worked to help those that struggled.
He is also said to have been a positive role model of how to make a better life for his family, with a joy-filled smile and care for all people.
“He was so proud of his kids. I remember visiting homes, African churches, and reaching out to the community together. I learned a lot from your endless heart for others,” mourned Dan Mueller, the Outreach Coordinator at Bethlehem Church in Austin.
Details of what killed the student of Education and Political Science remain unclear, but it is news that has devastated family, friends, and the community.
